Enquêter sur la participation populaire en contexte de politisation extrême
Résumé
The objective of this article is twofold. On the one hand it seeks to show that methodological considerations contributed just as much to structuring the argument developed in my thesis as the object of study itself. On the other hand, it aims to question the role of the context in which the fieldwork was conducted in the choice of methodology, or even the way in which the context determined the approach that was taken. Based on research into the effects of the grassroots participation of women in Chávez’s Venezuela, this article explores the strategies developed to conduct fieldwork in a highly politicised environment subject to multiple tensions. It also aims to encourage reflection on the impact of the interviewer’s own position in the construction of their approach, particularly when they are from the country they are studying. Overall, this text is an invitation to explore ethical questions, the adjustments and methodological tools of a thesis “in the making”.
L’objectif de cet article est double. D’un côté, il s’agit de montrer en quoi la réflexion méthodologique a autant structuré la pensée développée dans ma thèse que l’objet d’études choisi. Et, d’un autre côté, il est question d’interroger le rôle du contexte dans lequel se réalise le terrain dans les choix méthodologiques qui sont opérés, voire la manière dont le contexte peut déterminer la démarche à suivre. En partant d’une recherche sur les effets de la participation populaire des femmes au Venezuela de Chávez, cet article explore les stratégies développées pour enquêter sur un terrain extrêmement politisé et en tension. Il propose également de réfléchir à l’incidence du positionnement de l’enquêteur ou de l’enquêtrice dans la construction de l’approche adoptée, notamment lorsqu’il ou elle appartient au pays étudié. En somme, c’est une invitation à explorer les questions éthiques, les ajustements et les outils méthodologiques de la thèse « en train de se faire ».
