The introduction to this special issue provides a state of the art that aims to highlight the emergence of a new critical paradigm in the study of objects, in ancient theatre and more generally in ancient Greek and Latin literature. After the dramaturgi- cal approaches that brought the theatrical object to the forefront, the end of the 2010s saw the publication of various works in which researchers no longer focus on the object as a constitutive element of a theatrical performance, but on the object as a category of being possessing its own mode of existence. The focus has shifted to the relations of continuity and co-creation between living and inanimate beings : influenced by contemporary critical currents, these authors seek to show how objects can become alive and possess agency. The critical analysis led here aims to show the interest of these approaches, but also their shortcomings and aporias. At the outset of this special issue on objects, we reaffirm the need to think about dramaturgy and ontology together in the theater, in a way that is not dogmatic, but always rooted in an in-depth reading of dramatic texts.
L’introduction de ce dossier procède à un état de l’art qui vise à mettre en évi- dence l’apparition d’un paradigme critique nouveau dans l’étude des objets, dans le théâtre et plus généralement la littérature antique, grecque et latine. Après les approches dramaturgiques qui ont mis l’objet théâtral sur le devant de la scène, la fin de la décen- nie 2010 a vu paraître divers ouvrages où les chercheurs ne s’intéressent plus à l’objet comme élément constitutif d’une représentation théâtrale, mais à l’objet comme une catégorie d’être possédant un mode d’existence propre. La focale est déplacée sur les relations de continuité et de co-création entre êtres vivants et êtres dits « inanimés » : sous l’influence de courants critiques contemporains, ces auteurs cherchent à montrer la manière dont les objets peuvent devenir vivants et posséder une agentivité. L’analyse critique ici menée vise à montrer l’intérêt de ces approches, mais aussi leurs insuffisances et leurs apories. Se trouve réaffirmée, à l’orée de ce dossier sur les objets, la nécessité de penser ensemble, au théâtre, dramaturgie et ontologie, d’une manière non dogmatique mais toujours ancrée dans la lecture approfondie des textes dramatiques.
