HIRING COMPLETED !!!!

The person recruited for the CDD study engineer as part of the ALBANEO project will start in October 2023.

He/She will carry out a sedimentological and geochemical analysis of sediment cores from the ALBACORE oceanographic campaign (N/O Leur Pas?, 2021). He/She will have to describe the sedimentary facies, sample and use complementary analytical approaches including the picking of foraminifera for the purposes of δ18O isotopic analysis, particle size analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), MSCL measurements (gamma-density, speed of sound, magnetic susceptibility), XRF measurements, smears and thin sections...

Host institution
The Paris Institute of Earth Sciences is a multidisciplinary laboratory whose expertise is recognized in many and varied areas of Geosciences. The key disciplines supported by ISTeP and around which the laboratory is structured concern

(1) petrology (metamorphic and magmatic) in relation to geodynamic contexts, notably subduction,

(2) the structural and sedimentary link between Earth and Sea with the study of the dynamics of margins and oceans and the paleoclimatic and paleo-environmental archives and

(3) tectonics, with the study of deformations and lithospheric rheology at variable temporal and spatial scales, from the scale of the fault and the seismic cycle until the long-term deformation of the crust in the orogens.

Study context
The ALBANEO project, which funds this work, is interested in the functioning over time of an intracontinental fault system along an emerging plate boundary in the Alboran Sea, as well as its implication in the morphology of the continental platform. , regional seismic and tsunami risks. The partners associated with this project are: Sorbonne University (ISTeP), Géoazur (Sophia-Antipolis), UMR Géo-Océan (Brest), GEC (Cergy), ENS Paris, Linnaeus Univ. (Sweden), CSIC-ICM Barcelona, University of Granada, IEO of Malaga. The ALBANEO project aims to promote data from the ALBACORE campaign, in particular through the study of 700m of sediment core drilling.

Main missions and activities for the recruited engineer
The recruited person will carry out a sedimentological and geochemical analysis of sediment cores from the ALBACORE oceanographic cruise (N/O Leur Pas?, 2021). It will have to describe the sedimentary facies, sample and use complementary analytical approaches including the picking of foraminifera for the purposes of δ18O isotopic analysis, particle size analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), MSCL measurements (gamma-density, speed of sound, magnetic susceptibility), XRF measurements, smears and thin sections...

The recruited person will also be involved in the stratigraphic analysis and dating of sedimentary series using the results of 14C dating and measurements of excess activity of 210Pb, 137Cs. Skills in stratigraphy and recognition of foraminifera microfauna would be desirable. Particular attention should be paid to deposits resulting from gravity processes whose origin could be linked to the seismic activity of the study area and to levels having undergone post-depositional deformation following the action of earthquakes. These analyzes will make it possible to advance the understanding of the dynamics on a strike-slip fault system.
