The calculation of the bearing capacity of shallow foundations on semi-infinite homogeneous soil is usually carried out by the superposition method; the same thing for a homogeneous soil layer of limited thickness. In the second case, when the base is rigid and the cohesion increases linearly with the depth, the calculation of the bearing capacity has gaps (treatment of the homogeneous layer taking into account only the surface cohesion: sizing unnecessarily superabundant; treatment of the layer as homogeneous taking into account "average" cohesion: risky therefore dangerous). The purpose of the study is to deal with the problem posed and to verify the validity of the superposition method. To do this, said study is based on the theory of "calculation at break".
Le calcul de la capacité portante des fondations superficielles sur sol homogène semi-infini s'effectue habituellement par la méthode de superposition ; même chose pour une couche de sol homogène d'épaisseur limitée. Dans le second cas de figure, lorsque l'assise est rigide et que la cohésion croît linéairement avec la profondeur, le calcul de la capacité portante comporte des lacunes (traitement de la couche homogène en ne tenant compte que de la cohésion en surface : dimensionnements inutilement surabondants ; traitement de la couche comme homogène en prenant en compte une cohésion "moyenne" : risqué donc dangereuse). Le but de l'étude est de traiter le problème posé et vérifier la validité de la méthode de superposition. Pour ce faire, ladite étude se base sur la théorie du "calcul à la rupture".
