Amélioration de la rhéologie du béton pour la fabrication numérique par les polymères non adsorbés

Non-adsorbing polymers enhancing the rheology of concrete for digital fabrication

Résumé

Concrete for digital fabrication needs to be fluid and stable during mixing and pumping and have sufficient cohesion upon deposition [1]. To fulfil these rheological requirements mix designers engineer combine use of superplasticizers and viscosity enhancing admixtures during mixing and pumping and inject a thickener just before deposition. Plasticizer type polymers, for instance, allow for a decrease in yield stress [2] whereas viscosity enhancing admixtures remain in the suspending fluid and enhance the stability of the suspension [3]. However, by adsorbing at the surface of cement particles, the impact of plasticizer on cement hydration is not trivial. They, indeed, strongly inhibit hydration [4] and retard the rapid strength gain of the deposited layer which is a crucial point for the construction of 3D printing structures [1,5]. In this work, we study a polymer that allows for a decrease of yield stress without adsorbing at the surface of cement particles and affecting the ongoing hydration. By increasing the viscosity of the suspending fluid, they also enhance the stability of the suspension. From interparticle force calculations, we show that these non-adsorbing polymers are at the origin of interparticle repulsive depletion forces. We show that their efficiency is very dependent on their molecular weight, concentration and the interparticle distance.
