Réoccuper l'immobilier vacant : enjeux territoriaux et problèmes opérationnels

Abstract : This presentation deals with the consequences of unused buildings on urban territories and associated opera-tional challenges. Vacancy is not a new urban issue but it has been renewed recently by the increase in the number, diversity and spatial sprawl of unused buildings. It occurs in shrinking cities as much as in dynamic ones. The presentation draws on a literature review and a research-action with the Roubaix municipality. It will account for the building vacancy phenomenon, its diversity, transterritoriality and multicausality. Then we will explain why building vacancy should get a peculiar attention in relation with its territorial challenges, and urban and financial consequences. Finally, we will question the form of intervention, from the production of actionable knowledge to the renewal of the operators in charge of the abandoned buildings reuse.
